2-year-old missing in northern Arizona

DEWEY - News 4 has learned authorities are searching for a 2-year-old boy who vanished from his northern Arizona home Monday night.

Emmett Trapp's mother called police around 8 p.m. Monday night to report the boy missing.

We understand Emmett was discovered missing after his mother woke up from a nap.

The family dog reportedly wandered off with Emmett, but returned after being called.

There is no evidence of foul play according to investigators.

Emmett Trapp has brown hair, blue eyes, and was wearing a pajama top, a diaper and no shoes.

He is about 26 pounds and 3 feet tall.

Second 2-year-old boy missing in Arizona

(CNN) -- A second 2-year-old boy has gone missing in 10 days from Yavapai County, Arizona, authorities said Tuesday as they announced a major search effort under way for the toddler, identified as Emmett Trapp.

Emmett's disappearance is believed to be unrelated to the case of Sylar Newton, another 2-year-old who was reported missing July 25 from a camping site in Rimrock, Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said.

Sylar's disappearance is now being investigated as a criminal case, authorities said Monday.

Emmett was reported missing by his mother at 8 p.m. Monday, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Searchers are focusing on mine shafts, open wells and septic tanks Wednesday as they attempt to find a missing 2-year-old boy.

The search for Emmett Trapp began Monday night when the boy's mother called authorities to report him missing from their home in Dewey-Humboldt, 12 miles east of Prescott.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says about 60 people on foot, horse and all-terrain vehicles are searching for the boy who was last seen wearing a pajama top, diaper and no shoes.

Wouldn't this imply that they believe foul play was involved? It seems to me they would just say so if they did not believe it.

I am watching NG....she's treating Horowitz terrible. NG is blaming the mother. It's very possible it was a very hot day and everyone was down for an afternoon nap along with the mother. It sounds as if there was no way he could have walked that far on his own...

This is so very, very tragic........

I find it unbelievable that he covered as much as 3-4 miles (as NG reported ) on his own, barefooted at that... that they found him face down in a mud puddle though makes me think that he was severly dehydrated. Poor baby - I do think that parents need to be very careful about leaving their children unattended, or even in the care of older siblings, but really, I think it's nothing more than a tragic accident. The mother could have been sick, or maybe she worked nights, we don't know right now, but it might be that she HAD to sleep that day - maybe she was up all night with a sick child. I hate to rush to judgement of her, maybe she just dozed off accidentally... i don't know. I'm not one to take naps when I'm alone w/ the kids - but that's just me, I know other mothers that do this quite often... Even when I'm sick, I'll ask someone to come watch the kids so I can get some rest, or I'll take them to one of their grandmothers - but not every mother has this liberty, and I haven't always had it either - sometimes there is NO ONE to help. I hate that it happened, but don't think that she should be prosecuted. She has to live w/ the guilt of this happening on her watch, which will be punishment enough, IMO.

Very, very sad.....
