Poor little innocent child, born to a stupid self-centered mother. A mother who gave birth to two children and deserved none. A mother who placed greater value toward a male who shared her bed. A child, now dead, who should have have been a priceless gift.
Makes me sick, and just so damn sad....

Where was the mom at 9:15 when her baby was killed???? How did she not know? I havent heard talk of her being put to bed...
That sounds like the time where the child should have been being put to bed, or maybe fighting off sleep and not wanting to go to bed... I can only suspect he found away to make her stop crying...
What a poor excuse for a human being..

Oh, I am just sick to hear this confession about Jozlynn's death. She never had a chance in that environment and the mother knew he had hurt her before
So senseless and cruel. The pain and suffering these children go through is just unbearable. When will it ever stop?

Police interview Jozlynn's mom again
Family wants Amber Alert reinstated

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids police interviewed the mother of 2-year-old Jozlynn Martinez again Saturday night, as the investigation into what happened continues.
Police confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 that investigators were at the home of Consuela Martinez at 915 Nagold around 8 p.m. Saturday. Consuela Martinez's mother, Retha, confirmed they were interviewing her daughter. On Friday, Police Chief Kevin Belk said no charges were pending against Martinez.
Consuela Martinez's boyfriend, Jeffrey Malmberg is charged with kidnapping Jozlynn. According to police, he was also questioned again Saturday from the Kent County Jail, where he is being held on $1 million bond.
Jozlynn Martinez died Monday night in her home and her body was disposed of in a trash receptacle, said Grand Rapids police chief Kevin Belk late Friday.
In a statement, Belk said Jeffrey Malmberg admitted to investigators the 2-year-old died in the home and he disposed of her body. Police have been searching the Kent County Waste-to-Energy facility.
Belk said the child's body has not been found, and would not say whether police believed the death was accidental or deliberate.
Having no body, Jozlynn's grandmother, Retha says she's frustrated police decided to cancel the Ambert Alert.
"She could still be out there alive, somewhere, someplace," said Retha, who did not want her last name to be published.
The family is trying to get Jozlynn's pictured registered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. They're making posters to put up around neighborhoods, and t-shirts to bring awareness to the little girl's disappearance.

Jozlynn Martinez's mother visits jail, says boyfriend refused to explain why he threw Grand Rapids girl's body in trash
By Kyla King The Grand Rapids Press
February 28, 2010, 6:30AM
Consuela Martinez went to the Kent County Jail on Saturday, looking for answers from her boyfriend — the man police say threw her 2-year-old daughter’s lifeless body into the trash.
She emerged from the jail visit 30 minutes later, crying and clearly frustrated by a fruitless meeting with Jeffrey Malmberg. He refused her pleas for new information about what had happened to Jozlynn Martinez, her brown-eyed daughter who had been missing since Tuesday morning.
“I can’t believe he would do something like this,” the sobbing 21-year-old said outside the jail’s visitor entrance. He told her nothing new, she said.
“It’s just everything he’s been saying.”
Grand Rapids police on Saturday continued to hunt for Jozlynn’s remains, sorting through refuse they removed from a disposal facility on Market Avenue SW and took to a separate, undisclosed location.
Police have said they are treating this as an homicide investigation, but would not comment on whether Malmberg has confessed to causing the child’s death, or said exactly how she died. He remains jailed on a kidnapping charge.
Police now believe Jozlynn died inside the Nagold Street NW home where her mother lived with Malmberg. On Friday, police revealed that Malmberg told them he removed the girl’s body, carried it several blocks and put it in a commercial Dumpster — all after his girlfriend had gone to bed late Monday night.
“We have now gone to the realization that more than likely she is deceased, and we’re trying to recover a body right now,” Lt. Ralph Mason said Saturday. Police were able to isolate trash from that particular Dumpster, but there is a chance her body already has been incinerated, he said.
Like her mother, the community is waiting for answers to the mystery, which came to public attention Wednesday, when police issued an Amber Alert for Jozlynn and said they were looking for Malmberg.
Malmberg, 40, was arrested Wednesday night in Lansing. The next day, he told police Jozlynn died inside the home Monday night, and he disposed of her body Tuesday before heading out of town.
Police will not give up the search for Jozlynn’s body, Mason said.
“This investigation is nowhere near complete,” Mason said. “Not only for the family’s sake, but the whole community that has been affected by this.”
The couple have a 7-month-old, Brian, who was taken into protective custody Thursday because of the circumstances surrounding his sister’s disappearance. He is expected to remain there until a March 11 hearing.

Boyfriend: Girl fell down stairs, died
Jozlynn's mother talks with Malmberg at jail

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A man lodged at the Kent County jail in connection with 2-year-old Jozlynn Martinez's disappearance told the child's mother his version of what happened to the toddler.
Consuela Martinez, 21, sat down with boyfriend Jeffrey Malmberg on Saturday during his visitation hours to hear his side of the story.
Jozlynn fell down a set of stairs at the couple's Nagold Street home in Grand Rapids on Monday night and died, Malmberg told Martinez. He panicked and decided to dispose of the child's body in a nearby commercial Dumpster, he said.
"When he went in the bathroom, (Jozlynn) was sitting on the bed," Martinez said after talking to Malmberg. "When he got out of the bathroom, he heard a noise ... and went downstairs and found her laying there."
Malmberg said he was sorry, Martinez told 24 Hour News 8 on Sunday.
Jozlynn went missing Monday night, police said, and by Wednesday, an Amber Alert was issued. Friday evening, Grand Rapids police held a news conference and announced Malmberg told investigators the girl was dead.
Police won't comment on how Jozlynn died. Her body has not been found.

Isn't it convenient for a murderer to claim a child fell and accidentally died... and they just panicked and disposed of the body.
I wonder if anyone ever really believes that excuse. Because I, personally, don't buy it. Not unless they have something to hide to begin with. Otherwise, most normal people would report the "accident."

If a child under my watch fell down the stairs, I would panic and call 911. It seems like most of the time children survive falls down the stairs. It doesn't make sense that she was already dead by the time he got down the stairs, and it makes even less sense to throw her body in a dumpster if she died accidentally.

You are absolutley right J4A... Even if she was going to succumb to death by the fall, it seems unlikley that she wud already be dead ...
Knowing the monters excuse that she fell down the stairs, that should give us the indication that when she is found, her injuries will likley be from head to toe...
Pretty coincidental that he just happened to notice her being awake and sitting up when he went to the bathroom, then she fell down the stairs....
How many 2 yr olds, sit up in their bed, at bedtime and are just quietly sitting there?????

He's a liar. She didn't fall down the steps, that's the oldest story in the book. He had hurt her before, she had a broken bone, per the mother. If you're innocent, you're going to call 911. Plain and simple.

Re: Jozlynn Mari Martinez -- Missing 2/23/10
I'll admit that I haven't watched the videos since I'm at work, but I have several issues with this MOTHER... She repeatedly refers to this baby as "it" - I'm sorry, I think at the very least, she knew beforehand that this baby was dead... She says at one point that she doesn't know if the child is dead, or maybe just hurt a little bit??? wth??? really??? is there a language barrier maybe that I'm not picking up on while reading her statements??? someone please tell me...
I was a single mom for several yrs - from the time my youngest child was just 2 months old until she was 4 - and I told my husband now - BEFORE i even started dating him seriously that my kids WOULD come first, because they were in my life before he was!! AND - I wouldn't allow him to meet my kids until i had been seeing him for about 6 months... call me stupid - but I found a man who cares more for my kids than their own father does. he loves them with his whole heart - WHY WHY WHY do mothers put their children at risk?? are they SO selfish that they are more concerned about their own desires that they don't care who has access to their children?? i say that my children are my MOST PRECIOUS asset - I protect them with my life - and I expect nothing less of my husband!! it was very important to me that i found out whether or not HE WAS WORTHY TO BE THEIR DADDY before he was husband material... Mothers have to understand that they aren't just looking for a mate!! they HAVE to be looking for a daddy first!!!
It just angers me - they DON'T have to put their children's lives at risk. I would have rather been a single mother FOREVER before burying one of my babies...

Re: Jozlynn Mari Martinez -- Missing 2/23/10
Very well said Tish. I admire you for putting your kids first. Many single moms would have trouble sticking to your 6 month rule if they really liked the guy. Many single moms that I've known in my life didn't even wait six months before allowing a guy to move in.

Tish-there was quite a few times during this Mom's interviews that I did this
. I couldn't believe some of the stuff she was saying either. I think your 6 month rule was a great idea.
I think some of these moms are too willing to get free, and usually, live-in babysitting.

Malmberg's father says his son is a habitual liar
March 01, 2010 5:43 PM
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – In Grand Rapids, the search continues for Jozlynn Martinez.
The two-year-old girl went missing from her home on Nagold Street on February 22nd.
Jeffrey Malmberg has been charged with kidnapping and larceny related to Jozlynn's disappearance. Police recently announced that Malmberg told them that Jozlynn died and he disposed of her body.
Jozlynn's mother, Consuela, told Newschannel 3 that in a phone call from prison, Malmberg told her that Jozlynn died after falling down the steps of their home on Monday night.
On Monday, Malmberg's father spoke to Newschannel 3 from his home in Florida.
In an interesting conversation, Bob Malmberg was very frank about his son, saying that he can be downright mean and can't be trusted.
“It bewilders me to no end that something like this would happen,” said Bob.
Bob Malmberg told Newschannel 3 that his son, Jeffrey, has significant attitude problems, going all the way back to his school days at Big Rapids High School. Bob said his son always wanted revenge, but Bob never dreamed his son would be involved in something like this.
“I am not too happy, no,” said Bob. “I never thought he would go to, get mixed up in whatever he's mixed up in there.”
Bob says he hasn't spoken to his son in more than two decades. The two were estranged after Bob turned his son in for stealing money at age 18. Bob said his son was a habitual liar as a young man, and that police are going to have to be very tough to get the truth out of him.
Newschannel 3 first reported over the weekend that Malmberg had told police and Jozlynn's mother that the girl fell down the steps inside the house on the west side of Grand Rapids, and that he dumped the body in a commercial dumpster a couple of blocks away. Her body has not been found.
Newschannel 3 also spoke to Jozlynn's biological father about the situation.
“It's just torture for us because we're getting no closer,' said Jozlynn's father John Rittenhouse.
Rittenhouse also told Newschannel 3 why he thinks Malmberg would have harmed the girl. The motive, he said, being that the family was giving little Jozlynn more attention than Malmberg's young son.
“To me that's a jealousy thing,” said Rittenhouse, “because he has to be the center of everything, and since things were going south, he figured maybe this is his way to get even.”
On Monday, Grand Rapids police told Newschannel 3 that Malmberg's story changes every time they interview him, making it very difficult to pin down what happened.
Malmberg's father told Newschannel 3 that he wants his son to simply be honest.
“If he actually harmed the little girl, yes, he's got to tell the truth and get it out,” said Bob Malmberg. “Take his punishment and let the world move on.”
It has certainly been a long week for Jozlynn's family, moving from uncertainty to heartbreak in a matter of five days.
The story began on February 22nd when Jozlynn's mother, Consuela, says she last saw her daughter. The next day, Consuela called police saying she couldn't find her boyfriend, Jeffrey Malmberg, or her daughter. She also reported that $2,800 had been stolen.
An Amber Alert for Jozlynn was issued Wednesday afternoon, and Malmberg was captured by police Wednesday night in a pool hall in Lansing.
On Thursday, police say Malmberg told them that Jozlynn had died in an accident at the home and that he had disposed of her body.
Malmberg was arraigned Friday afternoon in Grand Rapids, the same day Grand Rapids Police ended the Amber Alert and announced that Jozlynn had died.

Re: Jozlynn Mari Martinez -- Missing 2/23/10
what also concerns me in this case is that this 21 (?) yr old was with a 40 yr old?? she was barely legal, he's twice her age!!! how long have they been together?
Good for his dad that he didn't cater to his son like the ants - he didn't enable him to continue living a life of - well, let's just call it what it is - it's sin - his dad did the right thing by turning in his son, even though in the long run it cost him his relationship with him. I'm sure at the time, he had had enough - it's got to be a very tough decision, and I don't envy him one bit - i hope I'm not ever faced with having to turn in my child, and IF i do have to make that decision one day, I hope I'm strong enough to make the right one. Too bad this guy didn't take his dad's advice way back when... he could have led a different life... what's the saying - you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink? that's about all we can do w/ teens right?? lol
