Susan Powell -- Missing 12/7/09

Its being said that Josh was afraid of what the boys might say and so he killed them to avoid any consequences. But, if he would have just killed himself then he would not have to face consequences. I wonder if these boys may have had information on their jailed grandfather and Josh did this for his sake. He and his father had one sick relationship if sharing Susan sexually didn't sound an alarm to Josh.

Josh sent an email saying he couldn't live without the boys, a narcissist like him would believe the boys couldn't live without him. Plus killing the boys was his ultimate "screw you!" to the Coxes. I don't know why he had such a vendetta against the Coxes, it seems completely irrational, like they were trying to destroy him, but Josh was doing that to himself.

This totally makes me sick. Josh obviously murdered Susan. Why the hell was he allowed anywhere near those children? I'm sick to death of killers being rewarded for managing to hide the bodies of their victims. Of course Josh didn't have the decency to take his own life and let his sons live, and of course he didn't have the decency to admit what he did to Susan and tell her family the location of her body before committing his final cowardly act.

What is being done to protect all the children who have missing mothers, brothers, or sisters and are forced to visit, or even worse, be in the custody of the people most likely responsible? Obviously the sad answer is that nothing is being done to protect them. I really hope we don't have to read about anymore tragedies like this, but some of these family court judges seem to like to roll the dice with children's lives. I pray that God watches over the children of Michelle Parker and all the other children in similar situations and keeps them safe.

I feel terrible for the Cox family. They did not deserve to have an evil monster murder their daughter and grandchildren. I pray they find the strength to get through this.

Reporting from Seattle— Charles and Judith Cox knew what the professional psychologists said — that their grandsons would be safe with their father, that Josh Powell would present no threat during the boys' court-ordered visits.

And yet. Could the professionals not see what the Coxes saw? That their daughter had been missing since 2009, and Powell was the leading person of interest in the case? What about the family stories that Powell, as a teenager, had smashed his sister's hamster to death, had threatened his mother with a knife?

Charles Cox said he had been on the verge many times of confronting his son-in-law with the blatant conflicts in his stories about what happened when Susan Powell disappeared. But he stopped every time with a nagging fear that Powell might react unpredictably — might even take it out on the children.

"I had this feeling that if he felt he was going to actually lose, that he was going to go to jail and not have a chance of freedom, he had the capacity to tell the kids, 'Here's some special Kool-Aid' or something, and just kill them and everyone in the family," Cox said Monday, a day after Powell apparently attacked his boys with a sharp object during a court-ordered visit and then set a raging, fatal fire.

The woman who took Charlie and Braden Powell on their last drive was a visitation supervisor who worked for Foster Care Resource Network, one of hundreds of businesses that contract with the state to provide social services.

She had known Charlie, 7, and Braden, 5, since November.

The children were under the state’s supervision not because their mother, Susan Cox Powell was missing, and their father, Josh Powell, was a person of interest in the case. They were there because they were living with their father and paternal grandfather, Steve Powell, when he was arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

After his arrest, the children were put in foster care for several weeks until the courts cleared them to live with their maternal grandparents, Chuck and Judy Cox of Puyallup.

In all that family tragedy, their visit supervisor’s primary concern was their welfare.

In the months leading up to the fiery blast, one of the boys drew a picture for his first-grade teacher at the beginning of the school year that Steve Downing, a lawyer for the parents of Powell's wife, said could shed light on the circumstances of her disappearance.

"His father was driving the van and he and his brother were in the back seat. His mother was in the trunk," Downing said of the drawing.

When the teacher asked the boy about the drawing, "Charlie told her, 'Then my mom and dad got out of the car and my mom got lost,'" Downing told Reuters.

To say I am even more horrified at the latest details would be a gross understatement. It just keeps getting worse. I can't imagine the terror in their hearts once they stepped inside that house and he slammed the door.

I'm not surprised the case is now a murder case. Someone commented that it could be the wet carpet meant that Susan got a hatchet to the neck like her sons.

PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Pierce County authorities served a search warrant at a storage unit belonging to Josh Powell Tuesday.

The storage unit is located somewhere around Puyallup, but the exact details are not known yet.

That was eerie listening to those 911 calls. So sad when the social worker mentioned the boys being in the house after the fire had broken out.

Funeral for Powell boys set for Saturday in Washington

Pierce County prosecutors would consider deal for Steven Powell

Prosecutors in Pierce County say they would consider making a deal with the father-in-law of missing Puyallup mom Susan Powell, who has been charged with voyeurism and possession of child pornography, in exchange for information about her disappearance.

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist told 97.3 KIRO FM in an email Tuesday that his office would "listen" if Steven Powell, his attorney or Utah law enforcement proposed such a deal.
