Casey Murder Trial Set For 2011
Thursday, February 04, 2010 12:10:50 PM
ORLANDO -- Casey Anthony may not go to trial for another year, according to new documents.
According to documents released Thursday, Casey’s trial for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, has been tentatively set to begin May 2, 2011.
The reason for the delay is that the documents set deadlines for depositions, discovery and motion.
According to the new documents, all depositions of law enforcement officers and employees are to be completed by Sept. 30, 2010, and all evidence-related motions need to be filed by Oct. 31.
Depositions in the case are to be completed no later than Jan. 31, 2010, and all motions are set to be heard by the same date.

Anthony's trial is set to begin on May 9, 2011. Judge Stan Strickland also set a schedule for the case to proceed. He ordered that all depositions of witnesses to be completed by October 31, 2010.

Anthony, 23, is in the Orange County Jail charged with first-degree murder in the the death of her daughter, Caylee.
Caylee's remains were found in a wooded area off Suburban Drive near the Anthony family home in December 2008.

Date Set For Casey Anthony Murder Trial
Posted: 11:03 am EST March 8,2010
Updated: 11:44 am EST March 8,2010
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A trial date was set Monday in the case against Casey Anthony. In an order signed by Judge Stan Strickland, Casey’s trial has been set for May 9, 2011.
Judge Strickland set a timeline for the issues that need to be addressed ahead of the trial, including depositions of expert witnesses, which need to be completed no later than September 30, 2010. The evidence must be reviewed by defense expert witnesses no later than October 31, 2010.
DOCUMENT: Order Signed By Judge
The judge pushed the trial back one week from where prosecutors had proposed for a start date, and gave the defense a little more time than prosecutors had proposed to get their key work done in the murder case.
Casey's defense team hasn't even started deposing state experts. The judge extended the date by another month and also gave the defense experts another month to review the evidence against her.
Casey Anthony’s defense must also list all expert witnesses she intends to call, file motions related to the forensic evidence found, and reports prepared by expert witnesses no later than November 30, 2010.
The judge ordered that he will determine the time and more importantly the location of the trial in the future. The most likely scenario is that if a jury is seated outside of Orange County, that jury would be brought to Orange County to hear the murder case, which would be cheaper than paying for all the parties and all the witnesses to travel outside of the county.
Saving money is even more important, since the defense is asking for all of its costs to be paid for by county taxpayers.
Anthony has been in jail since October 2008 and faces the death penalty for allegedly murdering her daughter Caylee.

snaz... thanks for the info.. but seriously, this is redonkulous.
a murder trial occurring 3 YEARS after the murder is just not acceptable.
"On Friday, Anthony's defense filed a motion for indigency claiming prosecutors decision to seek death will require them to ask the state to pick up certain investigative and travel costs." snipped and copied by me from above post..
is the defense claiming that she is indigent ONLY because the state is seeking the DP?? ... so if the DP was not on the table, she would not be indigent?? i am confused.. does this actually make sense to anyone?

So...here we go again! The defense is right back at square one, they have accomplished nothing, have no evidence to prove it was not Casey. They stalled time and time again with their loco-motions.
Last Friday they filed a motion for indigency and want the county to pay for defense costs because it's the states fault now for going for the death penalty.
Before one cent of county funds is paid for the defense, shouldn't the defense have to provide an accounting of their income to date, and how much has been spent, and for what purpose.

Date Set For Anthony Murder Trial
Casey Anthony's Trial To Begin May 9, 2011
POSTED: Monday, March 8, 2010
UPDATED: 12:59 pm EST March 8, 2010
ORLANDO, Fla. -- An Orange County judge has signed an order setting the date for Casey Anthony's murder trial to begin nearly three years after Caylee Anthony was last seen alive.
Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland signed the order, which outlines a schedule for witness depositions and additional discovery, on Friday. The order said the trial will begin on May 9, 2011.
The order said the time and location of the trial will be determined at a later date.
Anthony's daughter, Caylee, was 2 years old when she was last seen alive in June 2008. The toddler was reported missing by her grandmother about a month later and Caylee's remains were found in a wooded area near the Anthony family's east Orange County home in December 2008.
Anthony, 23, is being held at the Orange County Jail on a first-degree murder charge in her daughter's death.
Anthony has pleaded not guilty and has said that a baby sitter took her daughter.
On Friday, Anthony's defense requested that the court declare her indigent, which would put the costs of her defense on the shoulders of taxpayers. Strickland has not issued a response.
The motion asks the state to cover the cost of depositions, transcripts, investigators, legal research, expert witness fees, medical or mental examinations, travel expenses and other costs the defense has or will incur.

Re: Murder Trial Set for 5/9/11
I think the timing of the trial is interesting.
I read on some site, Hinkymeter maybe, I'll try to go find it, but someone had listed the maximum sentence for lying to cops and for misdirecting an investigation and some other stuff Casey did for sure, and somehow it totaled up to about how much time Casey would have already been in jail by May 2011- minus the time served she got for the check fraud -if she were found guilty of those charges (which of course she is!). So when I read that I was thinking if Casey got off the murder rap for some reason, she'd walk with time served if the trial were help in May 2011.
That probably doesn't make much sense without the stuff from that other site. I'll go find it, but it's going to be later today I hope, I've got a mess going on at home! And I do mean a mess! Cleaning for Spring! Yay! I just sat down here to take a break and couldn't my mouth shut! LOL

Setting of trial date is top news

Casey Anthony’s murder trial will start May 9, 2011, and that was a top story at noon today.
WFTV-Channel 9’s Kathi Belich noted that prosecutors had suggested the trial start a week earlier.
So WFTV anchor Vanessa Echols saw the later date as “a slight win for the defense.” Belich agreed.
The trial date occupied a prominent spot on the Web sites of WFTV, WESH-Channel 2, WKMG-Channel 6 and WOFL-Channel 35.
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

HUH?? How on earth could the judge setting the trial ONE WEEK LATER than the State had suggested be considered a WIN for the defense??? Maybe it was something as simple as a calendar conflict for the judge....
Sheesh!

Bozo will take a win any way he can get it, no matter how small or insignificant.
It is ridiculous that the trial is going to be three years after the murder. I hope Judge Strickland makes it clear to all the lawyers that he will not tolerate anymore delays and that the trial will begin on that date without question.

You know, something really hit me like a ton of bricks as I was reading today....
By the time KC goes to trial in May of 2011, it will have taken not quite a month longer than all the months precious Caylee lived here on earth as a mortal being.
From the date Caylee was born - August 9, 2005
To the date KC kills Caylee - June 15/16, 2008
That's 2 years and about 10 months... about 8 weeks shy of being 3 years old
From the date KC killed Caylee - June 15/16, 2008
To the start of KC's trial - May 2, 2011
That's about 6 weeks shy of 3 years......
There's just something really WRONG with that.
KC should already be convicted by now.

There definitely is something wrong with that Snaz. The defense's stall tactics don't help, but I think one of the reasons it's taking so long is that Judge Strickland and the State are proceeding with extra caution to make sure no mistakes are made that would provide Casey with grounds for an appeal. Whatever the reason, it is frustrating.

thank you for pointing that out.. i KNEW that the time frame from murder to trial was REDONKULOUS in this case, but your breakdown made it so easy to see.
i pray for justice for little caylee, no matter how long the defense drags this out!

The defense can use all the stall tactics and play all the games they want, but I think there will be justice for Caylee in the end. To better state what I wrote earlier, I think Judge Strickland and the State allow all the stall tactics and don't force the issue because they don't want to leave any openings for an appeal. That's the only possible excuse I can think of for the time between Caylee's death and Casey's trial to be longer than the time Caylee was alive.

I think the defense team thinks if they postpone long enough, everyone will have forgotten about Caylee. That will never happen as the idiots in this family keep doing crazy and ridiculous things to keep their faces in the news.
No one, in our group, can forget that precious baby. But Joe Average probably wouldn't even think about her if the grandparents and defense atty's would stay out of the news.

One of the reasons I stopped watching NG is because my grandson kept asking who Caylee was. What's her name Nana? Where is she? Can she come over and play? I wish she could come and play with Peanut. I will never forget that sweet baby asking her Papa if he was tired. No matter what the defense does, we will never forget....
The state will have all their ducks in a row and be ready to roll by 2011....bring it Jose.

you right dis..
that video should be played front and center at the beginning of the trial.. and at the beginning of jury deliberations.. just to remind the jurors WHY they are there. the defense CIRCUS that will insue will NEVER overshadow little caylee in her own light.
how much do you want to bet the defense will TRY to keep all photos and video of caylee OUT of the courtroom.. ?? they will not want the jury to look at that baby's face for ONE SECOND!! wont work.. they are completely admissible!!
