Baker’s attorney Fred Meiers asked the judge Wednesday to throw out statements she made to police about her son's death just before she was charged.

“I felt intimidated,” said Baker on the stand.

She says the prosecuting attorney and a detective pulled her aside and questioned her in a locked room at the courthouse. She was there to see Brandon Hayes face a judge. She says they never read her her rights.

“At the time, I talked to her she was the mother of a deceased child and a victim of domestic violence,” said Marcie Mabry, who retired from the Genesee County Prosecutor’s office last year. “I wasn’t talking to her as a suspect.”

It was a year ago today that a beautiful little boy died from being savagely beaten to death while a mother watched and neighbors listened. Rest in peace, Dominick.. afro

I'm extremely late on seeing this case. Bless poor Dominick's heart! At least he is in heaven now, and his brother Tyler will not share the same fate as Dominick.

On Tuesday, August 30, 2011, the 26-year old pleaded guilty as charged.
The police officers who arrived at her apartment to find her son covered in bruises, “from his head to his toes” couldn’t help but wonder what was going through her mind as she emotionally faced the judge.
“She was emotional,” said Allen. “Was it because she was taking the plea? Was it remorse? Only she knows.”
“We are one step closer to bringing Justice to our grandson Dominick,” said Martin Baker of his daughter’s plea.
“Get Brandon put away,” said Baker, of Livingston County's Tyrone Township, of the next step in getting Dominick justice.
Brandon Hayes is scheduled to face trial on September 7, 2011 according to Genesee County Circuit Court records.
Baker told Genesee County Prosecutors she will help them put Hayes away. She will testify against him when he goes on trial. She faces up to 30 years in prison.

Welcome PrimaOnPointe...my heart breaks for this child. And I want justice to be served. It can never take back the pain and suffering Dominick had to endure, but hopefully these two responsible will spend the rest of their vile days behind prison bars.

Highly publicized murder trial may move to another county

Judge excuses entire jury pool in Dominick Calhoun case

Updated: 4:32 pm, Mon Sep 19, 2011.
By Sharon Stone

Apparently, it is going to be more difficult than expected to find an unbiased jury in a highly publicized murder case in Genesee County. On Thursday, Genesee County Circuit Court Judge Richard Yuille indicated he would consider another motion by defense attorney James Piazza to move his client's murder trial to another county. His client is Brandon Hayes, 25, who has been charged with murdering 4-year-old Dominick Calhoun in April 2010.

Defense takes aim at mother of 4-year-old Dominick Calhoun in murder trial of Brandon Hayes

FLINT, Michigan — The attorney for a man accused of beating a 4-year-old boy to death hammered away at the credibility of the boy’s mother Thursday, questioning her past drug abuse and dealings with Child Protective Services.

“It seems as if whenever CPS gets involved, there’s an accusation of the person living with you being violent with one of your children,” defense attorney James Piazza told Corrine Baker, as she testified against Brandon Hayes.

Hayes, 28, is on trial for first-degree murder, child abuse and torture in the April 2010 death of Dominick Calhoun.

Family looks to move on with life after Brandon Hayes and Corrine Baker sentenced for 4-year-old Dominick Calhoun's death

MLive - Flint, MI

FLINT, Michigan -- Corrine Baker cried and Brandon Hayes stared straight ahead while they were sentenced in Genesee Circuit Court for the beating death of 4-year-old Dominick Calhoun.

Eric Calhoun, Dominick's father, sat with a smile on his face.

"It feels great," said Eric Calhoun, as other family members hugged outside of the courtroom.

Hayes, 26, received two life sentences, while Baker, Dominick's mother, was sentenced to 13-30 years in prison by Genesee Circuit Judge Richard B. Yuille on Monday.

Dominick died after authorities say he was tortured for days by Hayes, Baker's then boyfriend. Genesee Sheriff Robert Pickell said Hayes beat the boy in the head, kicked him in the genitals and poked him in the eyes after Dominick urinated on the couch while eating breakfast.

It was a great day in justice for little Dominick Calhoun! Genesee Circuit Judge Richard B. Yuille was not lost for words either. Go Judge Yuille!

I wonder who those tears were shed for too. I don't think they were for Dominick.
