Re: New Motions - May, 2010
thanks for the info, but i am a bit DIM on the meaning of the 1st one... does this mean that they do not want ANY of the financial info (money spent) on the defense to be publicized??
from the way i see it, if you are asking (eh.. FORCING) the taxpayers to foot the bill, you shouldnt be able to keep said bill a secret. JMHO of course.

Casey’s Lawyers Want Strategy To Stay Secret
Wednesday, May 05, 2010 3:04:43 PM
Reported by Adam Longo
ORLANDO -- Casey Anthony’s attorneys do not want you to know what your own tax dollars are paying for, according to a new motion.
A court hearing Wednesday will set the budget for the defense team after Judge Stan Strickland declared Casey indigent in March.
Now, Casey’s lawyers have asked Judge Belvin Perry to seal all documents and invoices relating to defense spending. They don’t want prosecutors to know their defense strategy.
The defense team has also filed a request to keep several out-of-state experts on the payroll.

Re: New Motions - May, 2010
I don't see either one of these motions being granted....
I can't believe the nerve of KC's defense attorneys.
EDITED: Let me re-phrase that. I don't see the motion to seal the documents being granted; the people of the State of Florida have a right to see where their taxpayer dollars are being spent..... however, they might get away with the motion to retain the out-of-state people since they are willing to accept the rates set forth by the JAC.
But let me add this: If I were Cindy and George, I would be reading that second motion VERY carefully when it gets to the part about the mitigation specialist. If they can't see that KC can and WILL throw them under the bus, then they deserve what they get!

Anthony Defense Wants Funding Records Sealed
Hearing Slated For Thursday Morning
POSTED: 11:59 am EDT May 5, 2010
UPDATED: 12:55 pm EDT May 5, 2010
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's lawyers are asking the judge to seal all state records indicating how her defense is funded.
In a new motion, Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, argues public disclosure of invoices they submit for reimbursement will lead to "rampant speculation as to the defense strategy."
Now that Anthony has been declared indigent, she qualifies to reimburse with state tax dollars for certain expenses.
Judge Belvin Perry is holding a hearing on the issue Thursday morning.
Casey Anthony is in the Orange County Jail being held on no bond on charges of murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.
Caylee's remains were found in a wooded area off Suburban Drive near the Anthony family home in December 2008.
Anthony maintains a nanny by the name of Zenaida Gonzalez kidnapped Caylee.

Snippped from the WESH article:

Why would they care what the "rampant speculation" is????
Geeze, they will use just about any excuse (a.k.a. LIE) to get what they want.

Casey’s Attorneys Want Spending Kept Private
Posted: 4:37 pm EDT May 5, 2010
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- WFTV discovered Casey Anthony's attorneys are trying to prevent the public from seeing how much of tax money they're spending on Casey's defense.
MOTIONS: Seal Spending | Pay For Experts
A judge has declared Casey indigent, so taxpayers will now pick up the tab for her expenses. Her attorneys want all of the information, which would normally be public, kept secret.
At last week's hearing, Casey's attorneys said they don't want the names of their experts to go public so prosecutors and the public don't find out the direction of the defense, but now they're asking for the amount they're spending to be kept secret, too (read motion).
When Casey was first arrested, she had no money that was legitimately earned. She couldn't even pay defense attorney Jose Baez's $5,000 retainer.
But, instead of opting for a public defender back then, only two months after Caylee had disappeared, Casey sold all of her own videos and photos of Caylee to ABC for $200,000 and two of her attorneys, one of whom has since left the case, raised another $140,000.
That money is gone now and taxpayers have no idea where all of it went. But now the defense wants to keep its future spending of tax money on her behalf a secret.
“That's not gonna fly with taxpayers,” WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said.
The defense filed the motion Wednesday, the day before it goes before Chief Judge Belvin Perry and the state Justice Administrative Commission to discuss its budget. In its motion, the defense says "documents and requests for funding will lead to endless speculation as to the defense strategy for defending Miss Anthony and could ultimately affect her right to a fair trial."
“Disingenuous, when defense appears on national TV floating defense theories and fueling speculation,” Sheaffer said.
In another motion filed Wednesday (read it), the defense wants taxpayers to pay for Casey's out of town experts and their travel, even though the state rules say she has to use Florida experts. The defense says it would be more expensive for new experts to start all over.

They shouldn't care, but as evidenced by the recent events leading up to Judge Strickland's removal, they care very much. It seems like they have nothing better to do than worry about what people are saying on blog sites. They probably worry about the blog sites because many are pretty good at figuring out what the defense's strategy is.
Casey's strategy is to lie and deny, and her lawyers' strategy is to get a few kooks to testify for them (e.g. Joy Wray and Kronk's ex-wife), point fingers at obviously innocent people (e.g. Jesse Grund and Roy Kronk), and stall in any way possible (e.g. file endless motions, ask the judge to recuse himself, etc.)

Both of these new motions are ridiculous...Baez and Co. know we have the Sunshine Law...next thing you know he'll go to the Florida Supreme Court to have it repealled...and while he's at it he'll have the DP stricken from possible penalties...Of course we know Mason and Lyon are behind these motions cause I don't think Baez has the knowhow to draft such motions...

copied and BBM from estee's post above.
did you catch in the hearing yesterday that bozo stated that the defense intends to file a motion with the court VERY soon to have chapter 119 declared unconstitutional as it pertains to HIS CLIENT?? chapter 119 is the sunshine law... and they are intending to fight it..
good luck with that.. i am unsure however, if they are going to fight it altogether, or just for KC anthony.. she is a princess you know.
