Prosecutors want Sloops’ talks with therapists about Ethan

Both before and after the death of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy in May 2010, his new stepfather, Nathan Sloop, spoke to a therapist about the boy’s behavior and physical state, according to a motion filed in 2nd District Court by Davis County prosecutors.

Prosecutors are seeking records of those conversations as evidence in their murder case against the defendant.

These two people need to fry, immediately. What they did to this child is too horrible to read. They've admitted it, told what torture Ethan suffered at their hands and they led police to his tattered and broken body. The mother is just as bad as the man.

Judge sets June hearing on evidence in Ethan Stacy murder case

Prosecutors and defense attorneys on Thursday agreed some records of communications between murder defendants Nathan and Stephanie Sloop and their therapists are protected by patient-physician privilege.

But a dispute remains on whether prosecutors are barred from using all of the records in court against the Sloops.

Second District Judge Glen Dawson asked attorneys to submit briefs on the issue by the end of May with oral arguments scheduled for June 3. The judge also scheduled a July 29 hearing to discuss whether materials seized from Nathan Sloop’s cell at the Davis County Jail might be admissible as evidence.

November preliminary hearings set for Sloops

Farmington • November preliminary hearings have been set for Nathan and Stephanie Sloop, who are charged with the May 2010 slaying of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy.

Stephanie Sloop was Ethan’s mother and Nathan Sloop was the boy’s new stepfather.

A three-day preliminary hearing for Nathan Sloop — who was the boy’s new stepfather — is set to begin Nov. 1 in 2nd District Court.

A preliminary hearing for Stephanie Sloop — the boy’s mother — is to begin Nov. 15.

Meanwhile, prosecutors and defense attorneys will continue hashing out patient-physician privilege issues regarding records of communications between the murder defendants and their therapists.

Utahns walk in memory of Ethan Stacy

LAYTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Crowds of supporters came out on Saturday to honor the life of Ethan Stacy.

Ethan died last year after injuries sustained from child abuse.

Over 150 people gathered for a 10-mile walk near the Layton Hills Mall to fight for justice for Ethan and to take a stand against child abuse.

Seven murder cases on docket in Davis

A married couple, Nathan and Stephanie Sloop, are each facing their own charges in connection with the death of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy.

Ethan's disfigured body was found buried in Weber County on May 10 after Stephanie Sloop called to report Ethan, her son, missing.

Both Sloops could face the death penalty. Prosecutors will decide if they will pursue the death penalty after the Sloops enter a plea at a future hearing.

Rawlings could not comment specifically on either Sloops' case, but did say, "In general, some of these cases are eligible for the death penalty as a realistic course of action."

Nathan Sloop has a five-day preliminary hearing scheduled to begin March 19. At that hearing, a judge will decide if there is enough evidence against him for the case to go forward to trial. No hearing has been set for Stephanie Sloop at this time.

One of the more emotionally-traumatizing child abuse cases covered here at The Hinky Meter was the brutal, horrific death of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy in 2010. Shortly after his mutilated little body was found and the terrifying and gut-wrenching details of his last days on Earth were revealed, it was reported that authorities did not think there was enough evidence to charge anyone with his murder. This soul-shattering news to an already heartbreaking tragedy almost killed my spirit.

OGDEN – A memorial marking the two-year anniversary of the murder of Ethan Stacy was held on Saturday morning.

Police say 4-year-old Ethan died in 2010 after being abused by his mother and step-father Stephanie and Nathan Sloop. They pair the allegedly hid the boy’s body in a shallow grave near Powder Mountain Ski Resort.

Nathan Sloop hearing delayed again

FARMINGTON -- The man accused of killing of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy will not be in court until July.

A felony arraignment hearing for Nathan Sloop, 33, of Layton, scheduled for Tuesday, was continued until July 10. Sloop and his wife, Stephanie Sloop, are charged with aggravated murder, second-degree felony child abuse, second-degree felony obstruction of justice and third-degree felony abuse or desecration of a body in connection with the death of the boy.

The court docket also shows that a five-day preliminary hearing for Nathan Sloop is scheduled to run from July 30 to Aug. 3.
