Kyron's Wall of Hope being moved

PORTLAND -- Kyron Horman's Wall of Hope memorial at Sklyine School will be moving before the start of classes.

According to the family, some parents have expressed concerns about the memorial being up when the school year starts, especially its emotional impact on students.

Kyron’s memory and the need to remind people that he is still missing is important, according to the family, but so is the need to do everything possible to make the start of school as normal for the students going there.

There is also a concern that an ongoing presence of strangers coming to the wall might also fuel safety fears in students.

Still No New Home For Kyron's Wall Of Hope

POSTED: 6:45 pm PDT August 23, 2010
UPDATED: 8:09 pm PDT August 23, 2010

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The new home for Kyron Horman's makeshift Wall of Hope is still up in the air, the missing boy's biological mother said Monday.

Desiree Young, who lives in Medford, said family members are looking for a place that's "convenient for everyone."

"We have to think about safety and security, but we're considering all of our options. The response has been tremendous," she said over the phone.

Stuffed animals, cards, poems and balloons began lining the Wall of Hope at Skyline School after the 7-year-old vanished on June 4.

Last week, Kyron's biological father said he wants to move the memorial because he doesn't want to distract students or attract strangers.

Kaine Horman filed for divorce from the boy's stepmother, Terri Horman, about three weeks after the child vanished. He also filed a restraining order against her and was granted custody of their young daughter.

They are moving the entire fence to the fire station and have installed security cameras at Skyline.

KATU will be broadcasting live from Skyline School Sunday morning for the Wall of Hope move.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Two major things will be different come Tuesday, Sept. 7, which is the first day back at Skyline School.

First, the Wall of Hope – long a fixture on the fence around the school – will be moved down the road Sunday morning.

Second, there will be new security measures – including five top-of-the-line security cameras – to make sure kids who return will stay safe.

"It's scary to think that you could just drop them off, and that could be the last time you see them," said Laurie Davis, a grandmother at the school Saturday.

Im not sure I buy the motive for moving it... I actually think LE and the DA hhave a bigger motive for this wall of hope to be gone...

I believe thhey dont want the community constantly reminded that a boy was taken by someone from this school...

It cud help initiate [ppl moving out oof the county, where the population wud decrease and new ppl loooking for a home may avoid their community altogether...

Putting in the cameras now is like locking the barn door after the livestock has escaped. These cameras should have been installed years ago, especially since this school is out in the boondocks, with no other business around it.

As far as the wall of hope, I'm sure the school wanted it moved before the kids came back to school so they could pretend nothing happened to one of the kids during their watch. Yell, let's put it at the fire dept, as they should have been protecting our children, that is their job isn't it, to serve and protect.

Frankly, I think this entire story is ridiculous and it will continue just as it is going now. Terri did it, we know it, we can't prove it, but Terri did it. If you don't believe it, just ask Dez and Kaine.

Reason and logic have no place at Kyron Horman's Wall of Hope
Published: Thursday, September 16, 2010, 4:21 PM Updated: Thursday, September 16, 2010, 5:30 PM

Here in the flatland of downtown Portland, reason and logic say there was no point and almost something a bit weird in Kaine Horman's decision to enroll his son Kyron in soccer this fall, to have school supplies and a new Iron Man backpack ready and waiting when school opened last week........
