Bumping!

Today is November 7, 2011 and the Shakara Dickens trial was to start. I have searched the Memphis media and I have not found one article about the trial underway with jury selection.

I am going to call Judge Bobby Carter tomorrow and speak to his Clerk or another staff member and find out if this trial is underway.

I think I will either call or e-mail the mainstream media in the area and see if they plan to cover this trial since there has been very little coverage in the Lauryn Dickens case.

New Trial Date for Shakara Dickens

I just spoke to the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk (TN).

On Monday, 11-7-11, Shakara Dickens had a Hearing. Her case has been continued.

The trial is now scheduled for 3-12-2012.

Earlier today I spoke to the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk (TN) to confirm if Shakara Dickens trial is still scheduled for 3-12-2012.

He confirmed Shakara Dickens' trial is still scheduled for 3-12-2012.

He was a very nice gentleman. He gave me the Indictment # 1100232 and told me to call any time and he or his staff will gladly give me updates.

I gave him the info I had, i.e., Judge Bobby Carter is the presiding judge in Dickens' case and that the trial was previously scheduled to start 11-7-2011 but was continued to 3-12-2012.

It took him a while to look up the info because they go by the Indictment number.

If I call in the future, I now have the Indictment # and they can give me info within seconds.

I forgot that I posted the Indictment number here in November, 2011. I wish I would have checked here before calling and I could have given the Indictment # versus other info. It would have saved time for the Court Clerk!

I am monitoring too many cases! lol

The Shakara Dickens' trial was scheduled to start Monday, 3-12-12.

I have not been able to find any mainstream media articles indicating this trial will start Monday.

I was going to call the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk (TN) on Friday but did not have time.

I did find this and I wonder if the trial is now scheduled to start on 3-19-12.

I will call the Clerk on Monday, 3-12-12, to determine the status of this case. I do know that "Case Status: SET T" means that the case is set for trial. The Status Date is the trial date.

(WMC-TV) – It was a busy afternoon in the courtroom as everyone waited for a jury to be seated in the case of a woman on trial for murdering her own baby.

Jury selection began around 1 p.m. Monday in the case of a woman accused of killing her 11-month-old daughter.

Shakara Dickens is charged with first degree murder.

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Shakara Dickens reported her daughter Lauryn missing in September of 2010. Now a jury has been selected for the mother's murder trial of her 9-month-old baby girl.

Verda Nelson lives a few houses away from Shakara Dickens' mother. She has a clear memory of September 2010 when dickens had moved out of her mother's home a month earlier.

"I was stunned - anything that has to do with children, it devastates me. There's no reason one person can't take care of one child."

At long last (a year and a half to be exact) the trial of Shakara Dickens for the multiple charges she faces in connection with the disappearance and apparent murder of her beautiful nine-month-old daughter, Lauryn, is about to start. Shakara is charged with aggravated child abuse, first-degree murder, and providing a false report to investigators.


Over the past year and a half the media have virtually ignored this angel’s murder. WREG out of Memphis, Tennessee has been the only news outlet to occasionally provide updates on the case. Hopefully, starting today, the media will give a little more attention in covering the legal system’s pursuit of justice for little Lauryn.

Testimony is set to begin today in the murder case of a young Raleigh mother accused of killing her 9-month-old daughter in 2010, though the baby's body has never been found.

Shakara Dickens, 21, was charged after police said she gave conflicting or misleading accounts of what became of her baby, Lauryn, including that she turned the child over to an unknown woman because she no longer could care for the girl.

Dickens, who has been in jail on $2 million bond, faces life in prison if convicted as charged.

Jury selection in the murder trial of Shakara Dickens was completed on Monday. Opening statements and testimony took place yesterday. Streaming coverage is not available on the trial, but Adam Hammond with WREF Channel 3 News is attending the trial and sending real-time Tweets. In opening statements the prosecution laid out they would be showing that in the days after 9-month-old Lauryn Dickens went missing, Shakara was working, partying and shopping tattoos like nothing in her life was amiss. The prosecution stated that after Lauryn’s disappearance Shakara showed no signs of anything being amiss in her life, instead getting tattooed, going partying, and working at her new job. When Shakara’s family started pressing to see Lauryn, Shakara gave three different stories on where the baby was.

Testimony continued yesterday in the murder trial against Shakara Dickens, accused of murdering her 9-month-old baby girl Lauryn. Please remember that while the trial is not being televised, Adam Hammond with WREG Channel 3 News is Tweeting live during the trial. You may follow him at @AHammond_WREG3.


Sergeant Merritt with the Memphis police department took the stand and reviewed Shakara’s cell phone activity from September 7th, which is the day believed to be when (at least according to Shakara) Lauryn “went missing” (reads murdered). Nine calls took place that morning between Shakara and Melvin Brown. Shakara also made a call around 11:40 a.m. to a dating service.

Yesterday’s court session in the murder trial for Shakara Dickens included the testimony of the remainder of the prosecution’s witnesses and ALL of the defense witnesses. That’s because there was just one defense witness; a woman who claimed she saw Lauryn with two women at a motel in September 2010. Then the defense rested. Today will be closing arguments and then the case should be turned over to the jury for deliberations. Dickens Found Guilty of Murdering Her Baby

MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) – Shakara Dickens was convicted Friday evening of second degree murder for killing her baby daughter Lauryn.

The jury started deliberating at 11:30 Friday morning and returned its verdict just after 4:30 p.m.

"Shakara Dickens is draped in the cloth of innocence," Art Horne, Dickens' defense attorney, said during closing arguments.
