ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Lawyers representing Casey Anthony are requesting additional time to investigate her defense in preparation for her upcoming murder trial, scheduled to begin on May 2, 2011.

The defense had previously requested 300 hours of investigation services rendered in-state back in October. That request was denied by Chief Circuit Judge Belvin Perry, Jr.; however, the court did grant an additional 60 hours to Anthony's defense team.

In a motion filed on Monday, Anthony's lead attorney, Jose Baez, states that those hours have been exhausted and he is requesting more time.

Perry Gives Casey Anthony Defense More Investigative Hours
Judge Grants Portion Of Request At Tuesday Hearing

UPDATED: 6:23 pm EST December 14, 2010

~Snipped~

Perry pointed out that since the murder charge Anthony faces could carry capitol punishment, he agreed that additional hours would not be excessive and he said that he wants the case to progress toward a May trial date.

Baez and a representative from the Justice Administrative Commission, which distributes funding for indigent clients, joined the hearing by phone.

After Perry granted additional investigative hours, the JAC representative pointed out that the defense may not have any hours left to use, seeing as the current invoices the commission has received already total more that what has been granted.

Perry pointed to at least one invoice, saying that he believes some of the costs that have been invoiced may not be reimbursable under the JAC's guidelines. The JAC said the invoices had not yet been gone through in detail.

Perry ended up saying the defense could have 110 hours to use after the JAC determined how many hours the defense had gone over its allotment. In other words, the defense will have 100 hours to use moving forward.

Well I guess on some level this is good news. It means that the defense isn't going to try to pull some Insanity Defense (which I do believe could be applicable), or some "accidental in the pool drowning death" ~ sounds like the defense is running scared. affraid

Great! The prosecution has them on the run!

BTW, were I Casey, and Cindy were MY mother, I would be talking to a psychiatrist and TELLING ALL and going with the insanity defense! It would save me from

Looks as though we are moving ahead with this...I missed the hearing today, but thanks for the diligence of J4 I'm able to stay on top of it...Judge Perry is right when he says death is something else...It is so final and justice will have the final word in this...He's just trying to leave no ends untied...I'd bet we will be hearing a lot of this case in the years to come...or at least references to it...

Still outrageous...Casey gets more time to try to avoid the death penalty...she stole time and life from Caylee.
Makes me sick, two years since those tiny little bones were discovered and carefully collected. The forensic team gave more time to recovering what was left of Caylee than Casey with her kodak phony mommy poses.
