Yeah I agree this makes no sense. So how long did it take them to get the dogs on finding this missing boy? I didn't follow this story but from what I have read they didn't get the dogs there at the beginning which they should have.

Six Months Later: Still No Sign of Joshua Davis, Jr.

KGNB - AM / New Braunfels, Tx

Friday, August 5th, 2011

(New Braunfels, TX) -- It’s been six months since the residents of New Braunfels came together to help find the then 18-month old Joshua Davis, Jr., who disappeared from his home in the 26-hundred block of Savannah Hill Circle on a bitterly cold night in early February. Since then, New Braunfels Police, with the help of the Texas Rangers and the FBI, have tried to uncover some sort of clue that would lead them to the whereabouts of the missing boy, who would now be about 2 years old.

Parents mark birthday of missing New Braunfels toddler with prayer

By Ciara O'Rourke AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Austin American-Statesman -- Austin, Tx

Published: 9:53 p.m. CDT Friday, Aug. 12, 2011

NEW BRAUNFELS — It was bitterly cold the February night that Joshua Davis Jr. went missing from his home in New Braunfels.

It had snowed that morning, so the 18-month-old's parents, Joshua Davis and Sabrina Benitez, said they had kept him indoors. The cold aggravated Joshua's asthma, a condition that had sent him to the hospital a handful of times since he was born.

Benitez said Joshua was last seen watching TV with family in the living room just before 8 p.m.

And then he was gone.

The search involved the FBI, Texas Rangers and search-and-rescue dogs. Hundreds of volunteers combed brushy scrubland and dense thickets near the subdivision where the family lived.

Six months later, Joshua is still missing. No body has been found. No suspects. And no solid leads.

Still, Davis and Benitez are hopeful he's alive. Today , they plan to mark his second birthday with a prayer vigil.

Cary Clack: One boy, missing but not forgotten

Published 11:01 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2011

San Antonio Express - San Antonio, Tx

People disappear every day in this country. We become acquainted with these missing strangers through fliers taped on the doors and windows of convenience and grocery stores and tacked onto telephone poles. Rarely do we learn their fate.

The one horrific exception was nearly 10 years ago, after the 9-11 attacks on the twin towers. Across New York City, hundreds of “Missing” fliers rose like desperate pleas. We would soon learn that with few, if any, exceptions, all of the missing had perished.

Snipped:

Which brings us to Joshua Davis Jr., who was 18 months old when he went missing on Feb. 4 from his home in New Braunfels. In a mobile home full of adults, including his parents, the boy somehow disappeared into the cold night, and the hundreds of volunteers who searched the area never found a trace of him.

This is so puzzling to say the least. It's hard to imagine a child going missing right under everyone's nose. And it seems none of the family, including the parents, are suspect. Where are you, Joshua?

There are snippets of an interview with Joshua Davis' parents. Also, some new pics of Joshua.

In the by-line there is incorrect info. Joshua Davis is from New Braunfels, Tx and went missing from his home in New Braunfels. San Antonio, Tx is about 25 or 30 minutes from New Braunfels.

Experts: Media biased in missing kids coverage

CBS News - The Early Show

(CBS News) Over the past week, there was an intense media focus on Lisa Irwin, the 10-month-old Missouri girl who, according to her parents, was taken by an intruder from their home in the middle of the night.

As investigators search for Lisa, there are thousands of other missing child cases that fail to capture the nation's attention.

CBS News' Susan McGinnis reports that Joshua Davis disappeared during a family gathering at their San Antonio, Texas, home last February.

Sabrina Benitez, Joshua's mother, told CBS News, "We picked the crib up, we looked inside ... and we (saw) no sign of him."

Police launched a massive search in the days following Joshua's disappearance. But even with the offer of a $20,000 reward, he has yet to be found.

What's more, Joshua's family says they are frustrated by the lack of coverage their story has received, especially when compared to similar cases like that of Lisa Irwin.

Benitez said, "It kind of makes me mad that, eight months later into the case, we're barely getting national media coverage."

Joshua's case isn't unique. Of the thousands of missing children reported each year, only a select few receive a heightened level of coverage. Experts say those cases often meet certain criteria.
