Haleigh Cummings - 2 years later, deputies think family hasn't told whole story

Thursday marks two years since Haleigh Cummings was last seen alive in her Putnam County home.

But investigators said they are convinced there are people connected to the case who know exactly what happened to her.

Haleigh was 5 when she was reported missing on Feb. 10, 2009.

Deputies quickly launched a massive search, but no sign of the girl ever surfaced.

The last person to see Haleigh alive was her father's then-girlfriend, Misty Croslin, who was later briefly married to Ronald Cummings during the search.

Sheriff: Witnesses hold keys to finding Haleigh

SATSUMA, Fla. -- The Putnam County sheriff believes witnesses in the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings are concealing information critical to finding her.

The second anniversary of the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings is tomorrow. Authorities believe the girl, who vanished at the age of 5, is dead.

Relatives of a young Satsuma girl who vanished two years ago will hold a prayer vigil tonight.

Haleigh Cummings, a 5-year-old blonde-haired kindergartner, was reported missing from her South Putnam home by a babysitter. A massive search came up empty and Sheriff Jeff Hardy last year said investigators believed Haleigh was dead and the case was considered a homicide.

Family members, however, resist that idea.

Haleigh's great-grandmother, who lives in Welaka and will host the vigil, says the family continues to hope the child is alive.

"She's out there somewhere and we're still looking for her," Annette Sykes said.

Authorities used the two-year anniversary of the disappearance of Putnam County girl Haleigh Cummings to press key figures in the case to provide information that can solve it while also vowing to aggressively pursue the case.

Meanwhile, both sides of the girl's family have vigils planned to mark the disappearance on Feb. 10, 2009.

Sheriff's Capt. Johnny Greenwood said in a news release that the evidence and investigation have minimized the likelihood that Haleigh's disappearance was the work of a stranger.

Haleigh Cummings - Two Years Later And We Still Ask, Will She Ever Be Found?

Today makes two years since little 5 year old Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her home in Putnam County, Florida while her brother and then baby sitter slept. She was reported missing at 3:27 am on February 10, 2009. I must say this case has really turned the lives of several people upside down, including family members, lawyers, journalists and anyone else that got involved in the case. I have to wonder just why that is though.

This case is very heartbreaking. I always held out hope for an Elizabeth Smart/Jaycee Dugard type miracle in this case, but I know that's not very likely.

Justice, I agree with you. Haleigh's case is very heartbreaking.

She seems so happy in all of her pictures. Beautiful smile and a twinkle in her eyes!

It is so sad that she grew up in a world surrounded by drugs! Ron Cummings, Crystal Sheffield, Misty Croslin and the Croslin clan. I read an article that Crystal's mom was arrested for a drug issue prior to Haleigh gone missing. It may have been a few years prior. I don't know if it is true or not.

I hope this case is solved one day and whoever is responsible for Haleigh's death (I do believe she is dead) is held accountable.

I think LE needs for someone to tell the truth. I think they are missing one piece to the puzzle!
