Would you believe Kathi Belich as a witness for the defense in the Casey Anthony case?
Believe. The hard-charging reporter from WFTV-Channel 9 is on a new list of defense witnesses.
snipped:
If she is on the witness list, Belich couldn’t sit in the courtroom and listen to testimony. She wouldn’t be able to cover the trial.

Casey Anthony prosecution challenges defense motions to exclude evidence
February 15, 2011|By Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel
New motions filed by prosecutors in the Casey Anthony case this week challenge the defense team's attempts to exclude scientific evidence in the case.
The prosecution also objects to the defense team's listing of a WFTV reporter and others as witnesses so late in the case.
Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton on Tuesday filed a motion to strike the defense team's motion to exclude certain evidence regarding Chloroform -- evidence expected to be critical in the state's case against Anthony.

Casey Anthony defense explains late witness list
By Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel
8:03 p.m. EST, February 16, 2011
The Casey Anthony defense team filed a motion explaining the late addition of defense witnesses in the high-profile case, including the addition of a WFTV reporter.
On Tuesday, the prosecution challenged a defense team's supplemental witness list which was filed late Monday. That list includes the name Kathleen Belich, the WFTV reporter. The prosecution took issue with the filing of defense witnesses so late in the process.
On Wednesday, the defense team responded, saying Belich was listed as a witness "to rebut witnesses just listed by the state involving an investigation launched against Laura Buchanan."

Richard Hornsby explains about calling Kathi Bellich as a witness~

Reporter’s Privilege?
Yes, Florida does have a Journalist’s privilege that can be invoked. See Florida Statute 90.5015. And I believe that a journalist would likely be able to avoid being forced to testify based upon this privilege; especially as it relates to the Casey Anthony case.

I see their motive, they think they're sneaky. I'm glad to read there is a way around it.
The Rule of Sequestration is a common law rule that could be invoked by parties to a legal proceeding to exclude non-party witnesses from listening in on what other witnesses testified to.
The judge in the Ryan Widmer case used this or something similar to keep Sarah's mom out of the courtroom after she testified. The only reasoning that was given was that the judge felt the jurors would feel sorry for her.

When my daughter was murdered, her ex's atty tried to keep me out of the courtroom, but failed. All witnesses had to stay out of the courtroom until they testified, but then they were allowed to stay.
