Police are searching for a Florida police cadet who disappeared after telling a friend she and her boyfriend were having "domestic issues."

Kelly Rothwell, 35, was last seen Saturday when she left a restaurant after meeting her friend, Donna Scharett. That same weekend, her live-in boyfriend, David Perry, abruptly left for New York. Perry, 46, is a retired corrections officer.

"He's elected not to discuss anything to do with this case or provide us any background," Pinellas County Detective Michael Bailey told ABC Affiliate WFTS.

A neighbor who lives in the same building with Rothwell and Perry on Indian Rocks Beach says on Saturday evening before Kelly was reported missing, he and his wife heard loud noises coming from the couple's condo directly above theirs.

"It was a thumping and banging on the ceiling. I don't know how to describe it. [It sounded] like somebody threw something down or threw something on the ceiling real bad," said neighbor Ken Williamson.

Rothwell's friend, Donna Scharrett, says after their lunch Saturday, Kelly planned to return home to talk to her boyfriend about breaking up. She has not been seen since.

Calling the case of missing police cadet Kelly Rothwell suspicious, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office executed a second search warrant Thursday at the Indian Rocks Beach condo, where Rothwell lived with her boyfriend David Perry.

Rothwell, a police cadet training in St. Petersburg, was reported missing March 13. She was last seen March 12, when she was on her way to break up with Perry, according to her friend Donna Scharrett, who first contacted police.

Det. Mike Bailey also released new information Friday about attempts by investigators to meet with Perry, who has refused to talk with detectives.

Kelly Rothwell's boyfriend has refused to provide a DNA sample to detectives investigating the March 12 disappearance of the St. Petersburg police cadet.

Detectives from the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office spoke Sunday for the first time with 46-year-old David Perry since Rothwell was reported missing.

Detectives said they tried to interview Perry, as he was removing contents from a local storage facility Sunday morning.

Hope fades to find missing woman alive

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – Nearly three weeks after Kelly Rothwell of Indian Rocks Beach went missing, the last person to have seen her fears the worst.

“My hope that Kelly is alive is gone,” said Donna Sharrett. “If she were able to get in touch with anyone, she would have done so by now. Let’s recover her body for her family’s sake.”

Rothwell, 35, lived with her boyfriend, 46-year-old David Perry, and was attending the Pinellas Police Academy. She was last seen March 12 leaving the Chili’s restaurant on U.S. 19 in Clearwater, where she’d had a late lunch with Scharrett. Before lunch, the two had attended a breath empowerment class in Palm Harbor, and according to Scharrett, Rothwell was heading home to break up with Perry.

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Kelly Rothwell liked to tell friends she had the best backyard: From the living room window in her second-floor condo, she could see the blue water of the Gulf of Mexico gently rolling onto the white, sandy beach. It was a soothing sight for Rothwell, a 35-year-old police recruit whose loved ones say her life was anything but tranquil.

Rothwell hasn't been seen in almost three weeks, and detectives, family and friends grimly concede there's a good chance she is dead.

On March 12, she told a close friend over lunch that she was going to break up with her live-in boyfriend David Perry, a former New York state prison guard. The normally sunny Rothwell was becoming increasingly disturbed at his possessive behavior, friend Donna Scharrett said, and had decided to move out of the condo, away from the stunning view but closer to her support system.

Palm Harbor, Florida - Donna Scharrett knows the truth. But, it's not easy to accept.

She says she knows that her best friend, Kelly Rothwell, is dead, and it tears Donna up inside.

Sitting in her Palm Harbor apartment, Donna admitted, "I think Kelly Rothwell is gone. I think she's dead, and I think Dave Perry killed her."

The last few days of Kelly's life were spent with Donna as the two had a much-needed girl's weekend. They had known each other for four years, after meeting at the beach.

Son of missing cadet's boyfriend arrested

Indian Rocks Beach, Florida - He's the ex-boyfriend who is at the center of an investigation involving a missing Indian Rocks Beach police cadet, Kelly Rothwell. Early Friday morning, his son was arrested after trying to defend him.

David Richard Perry, who is 21 years old and shares the same name as his father, is accused of fighting and yelling with people at an Indian Rocks Beach bar because of accusations they were making about his father.

Missing Police Cadet Honored at Fundraiser

Dunedin woman and other friends of Kelly Rothwell, the St. Pete police cadet who went missing six months ago, held a pancake breakfast Saturday to raise money for The CUE Center for Missing Persons.

As the sun peeked out from behind a cloud about 8 a.m. Saturday, Donna Scharrett was wide awake with 11 volunteers preparing breakfast for a cause she never envisioned herself being part of sixth months earlier.

The pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Church of Isles on Indian Rocks Beach honored Kelly Rothwell, 35, a former St. Pete police cadet and resident of Indian Rocks Beach who disappeared March 12.

For six months, Scharrett has fought to keep authorities and the public focused on finding her best friend.

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Two Baltimore County women have been inspired by their sister's disappearance to petition for a new federal missing persons law.

Kelly Rothwell, 35, is from the Baltimore area, but had been living near Tampa, Fla., as a police cadet. Police said Rothwell vanished in March.

Eight months later, Rothwell's sisters, Lauren and Lindsey Rothwell, said they are losing hope. The Rothwells said they think their sister's case could've had a different outcome if she'd been added to a federal database of missing people, and now they're fighting for other missing adults to have that guarantee.

Well, the tides are turning. Detectives just got a huge break in the case, their first solid lead. A woman saw Kelly's story on 10 News when we reported that David Perry recently remarried. The woman says she recognized Perry instantly and called Pinellas detectives right away.

As is customary with all tips to law enforcement, the tipster has remained anonymous. The woman claims she saw Perry right around the time that Kelly went missing. She told detectives she remembers exactly when it was because her mother passed away that week.

Lead Pinellas detective on the case, Michael Bailey, tells 10 News, "I think for certain she saw this person. She's saying it was David Perry, she's seen his picture, obviously, in the media. She's pretty certain that this was him. Yeah, I think it's pretty credible."

Thank you J4a for the update...I am ashamed of myself for not keeping up with this since it is practically in my back yard..I rarely watch the news...I rely on my internet family to keep me posted...Guess I should watch the news more often, but then there is the choice I would have to make as to which station to watch...

Right now, the state attorney's office is reviewing felony stalking charges and looking closely at the case. However, they did not indicate when the charges would officially be filed. It could be two or three weeks.

Rothwell's friends have said all along that David Perry threatened to kill her if she ever broke up with him.
