Missing Tenn. woman may have been abducted

4/13/11

Holly Bobo, 20

PARSONS, Tenn. – Searchers in western Tennessee planned to keep looking Thursday for a nursing student who was last seen being dragged from her house by a man wearing camouflage in what authorities say may have been a home invasion and abduction.

About 250 volunteers came out to help Wednesday, but the search for Holly Bobo, 20, had to be called off until it was light again, Decatur County Mayor Michael Smith said.

About 50 people had gathered at the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Parsons on Thursday morning to help in the search. Most were area residents who wanted to help, but there were also some members of the Decatur County Rescue squad.

Bobo's 25-year-old brother told investigators he saw a man dragging her across the carport at her family home and toward a wooded area, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said. Bobo's brother was inside the house and the kidnapping was outside in the rural area of small, modest homes about 100 miles northeast of Memphis, the TBI said. A spokeswoman would not give more details on what the brother told them.

Since news of the case spread, neighbors and people in nearby communities have poured out to help search, bring food and support family members who are holding together reasonably well, Smith said.

A dispatcher for the Decatur County Sheriff's Office said authorities used dogs and a helicopter in the search Wednesday.

Bobo is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. She was last seen Wednesday morning wearing a pink shirt and light blue jeans.

Holly Bobo abduction: Family holds press conference, $25,000 reward

April 14th, 2011 6:05 pm ET .

PARSONS, Tennessee -- The parents of Holly Bobo held a press conference Thursday afternoon to discuss the abduction of their 20-year-old daughter and to discuss a reward for information about her abduction.

Holly’s mother sobbed during the entire news conference and was visibly shaken. She had to be carried away after making a short statement.

When asked what he would say to his daughter, Holly’s father Dana Bobo said, “I would tell her I love her, and tell her to call us.”

In a most heartfelt plea Holly’s dad Dana said: “Our daughter was taken from us Tuesday morning about 8 o’clock from our house, going to school.”

I am confused about the brother's statement. He was home, he saw the abduction, and .... What? I guess I expected to read about him running out the door and chasing the guy or something. I am wondering how he saw of this, and what was that situation.

And the yahoo article in the first post has this line in it.
Authorities received two 911 calls about the abduction, one from Clint, 25, and the other from Bobo's mother, who wasn't.

The mother wasn't what? 25? Duh! I think it was supposed to have continued and said something like, "who wasn't at home at the time of the abduction," but the editing blew that line.

I was wondering the same thing Maat. The Yahoo article said they haven't revealed what the brother told the 911 operator, so it makes you wonder if the guy was armed or if there was another reason he didn't or couldn't run out there to try to save his sister. It also said the family thinks it might be someone who knows their daily routine. Since they aren't sure who it is, it makes me wonder if the carport was too far away from the house for the brother to get a good look at the guy.

From what I read on FB this morning, the brother was getting ready for work and he saw Holly talking to the guy in camo on the carport and he thought it was her boyfriend that was there going hunting, it's turkey season (as we know from the other story!). The next thing he saw was her being taken into the woods. Her parents weren't home, they are saying the news reports are wrong on both counts, at least that's what I've read and the person is saying she knows the family. Because I wondered the same thing about the brother.

This is where I read it: Prayer for the return of Holly Bobo - it was an event, now it's saying the event isn't available at the moment.

Tennessee investigator makes plea for help in Bobo case

NASHVILLE, Tennessee | Mon Apr 18, 2011 8:03pm EDT

Tennessee's top investigator on Monday made a public plea and Governor Bill Haslam offered a $50,000 reward as authorities pressed for leads in the apparent abduction of 20-year-old nursing student Holly Bobo five days ago.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was checking more than 250 leads in the disappearance of Bobo, who is a cousin of country artist Whitney Duncan, TBI Director Mark Gwyn said in an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"The next analysis of a piece of evidence could be a key in solving this particular incident," Gwyn said. "I can tell you that we have not eliminated anyone from this case."

Monday's search centered on Natchez Trace State Park north of the Bobo family home in Darden, Tennessee, said Kevin Cagle, director of the Decatur County Emergency Management Agency.

Search for Holly Bobo Focuses on Suspect

Tuesday, April 26, 2011 1:33 PM
Staff Reports

Decatur County, TN (Parsons, TN) - The search for Holly Bobo may focus more intently on finding a suspect related to the young woman's disappearance, according to TBI spokesperson Kristen Helms.

When asked if she [Helms] believed that investigators were closer to finding Bobo this week than in the previous week, Helms stated that the investigation has "become more narrowed" and that officials are intently focusing more on finding a potential suspect in the 20 year old's disappearance.

Police search for Holly Bobo continues in spite of weather

April 27, 2011 11:56 AM

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, searchers found an additional piece of evidence Friday that may pertain to Bobo, but they are not releasing what it is, reports Reuters.

The new clue was found along the road in the northern part of Decatur County, Tenn.

While police initially believed an abductor dragged Bobo away as she left for school last Wednesday, investigators now suspect it was a community member in camouflage who led Bobo into the woods near her home.

Police say they have begun the process of identifying persons of interest in the case.
