FBI joins search for girl missing from NH town

STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. (AP) — The disappearance of an 11-year-old girl from her house just a mile from the Canadian border rattled nerves in her small town Wednesday as crews searched the Connecticut River and cordoned the house with police tape .

Celina Cass was last seen in her house at a computer around 9 p.m. Monday and was gone the next morning, authorities said. Police have said that there's no indication she ran away or that someone took her, and there are no signs of a struggle.

On Wednesday, the FBI joined the investigation into Celina's disappearance and prosecutors from the attorney general's office arrived in Stewartstown and took charge of it.

"We are still desperately looking for her," said Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young, who typically handles homicide cases.

Celina Cass, an 11 year old 5th grader at Stewartstown Community School, has vanished from her small-town New Hampshire home Monday night, July 25th, where she lives with her mother, step-father and sister. Now the FBI has reportedly joined the search effort and speculation as to a possible abduction are mounting. While search teams continue to search the immediate area of deeply forested woods and waterways, the mystery of her disappearance has an aura that one community member called “creepy” according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

So far, little to no clues have surfaced as to her whereabouts. The only solid clue released to the public at this time is where she was last seen and by whom. Family members recall that she was on the computer, around 9 pm last Monday night and hasn’t been seen since. Family and friends say she was happy and wouldn’t have left home on her own. Her close friends describe her as a responsible student and friend.

Celina Cass’ Facebook page remains eerily live at the time of this news report, with her wall set for public viewing. A barrage of posts about her being in love could present further clues as the search for this young girl continues.

Missing New Hampshire Girl: Authorities to Talk to Every Person in Town

New Hampshire authorities plan to talk to every person in the tiny town of Stewartstown, N.H., for clues about Celina Cass' whereabouts.

"Every house, every individual in the neighborhood is being spoken to," said Jane Young, New Hampshire's assistant attorney general.

More than 100 searchers are now involved in the manhunt for the 11-year-old girl who was last seen in her bedroom at her computer on Monday night. The FBI is involved in the search and so are the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The town of just 800 people is only a mile from Canada.

So far, this extraordinary effort has turned up nothing.

"I can tell you actually what we have not learned and that is where is Celina Cass now," said Kiernan Ramsey of the FBI's New Hampshire office.

Ramsey remained hopeful.

"We're using advanced techniques from aviation to canines and the like. We are hopeful some positive outcome could result," Ramsey said.

There was supposed to be a live stream of an update at 6:30 PM tonight, but I kept getting a blank screen.

I did learn that there will be dive teams going to the area on Sunday to conduct a search.

This is an article I found from the Daily Mail in the UK which has some focus on the step-father's past. I went to his FB page and it was frightening to say the least.

Cass' stepfather, Wendell Noyes, was taken to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital by ambulance Monday morning.

Its interesting to note that a few days ago the news reported that this man said he and Cass' mother were grieving and wanted to be left alone. Grieving when there is hope she is alive?

Seems that the body has been confirmed as Celina's.

Cause and manner of death have not been determined. They are treating it as a suspicious death and the autopsy is scheduled for 9 a.m. tomorrow. Home is taped off as they continue to investigate areas where she was last seen. Authorities have not commented on possible suspects.

According to several media outlets, Cass's stepfather was taken to a hospital Monday morning. MSNBC reported that Wendell Noyes was taken by ambulance after repeatedly laying down in the family's driveway and rolling around, and video showed him dropping to his knees in the driveway and then laying face-down, with his head resting on his hands.

A spokeswoman for Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital, in Colebrook, N.H., said she couldn't comment on whether Noyes was taken to the hospital.

In 2003, Noyes was involuntarily committed to New Hampshire Hospital in Concord after he entered his girlfriend's house in the middle of the night and threatened to throw her down stairs, according to court documents. An order signed by a probate judge indicated Noyes suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and believed corrections officials implanted a transmitter in his body to keep track of him.

A court motion filed by his attorney at the time indicated Noyes served in Operation Desert Shield before receiving a medical discharge from the Air Force because of schizophrenia. The attorney didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

I agree with you guys about the step dad - he is very obsessed with sex as is seen on his FB page.

I think that the episode in the driveway is to help lay the framework for an insanity defense. He knew there were cameras there. Knew it would be seen and there would be video of it. His FB doesn't read of an insane person, just a perv.

I am not sure where people are sleuthing it, but they are saying that Noyes is related to two SOs. A brother and a cousin or something? I have no idea how people look that stuff up, but there is a thread on a page on FB that is a string of comments on something Noyes posted on some (probably fake) young and hot girl's page.

Celina Cass autopsy doesn't bring answers

CBS/WBZ/AP) TEWARTSTOWN, N.H.- Authorities say the autopsy on the body of Celina Cass, which was recovered Monday morning from the Connecticut River, did not reveal what killed the 11-year-old New Hampshire girl.

The autopsy was conducted Tuesday but didn't determine a cause of death and further study is required, Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said.


Meanwhile, the girl's hometown is expected to move forward with its annual children's festival called Stewartstown Days. It's scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Stewartstown residents had considered canceling it but they are now dedicating the event to her memory.
