CORPUS CHRISTI — The Texas Supreme Court temporarily suspended Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams with pay Tuesday, about three weeks after a video was posted online showing him whipping his then-teenage daughter with a belt.

Also Wednesday, a district judge issued a temporary order allowing Adams to have supervised visitation with his youngest daughter, following a custody hearing this week.

Court suspends Texas judge taped beating daughter

A judge caught on video beating his daughter with a belt in 2004 was suspended Tuesday by the Texas Supreme Court.


Judge William Adams, who made national headlines after the release of a 2004 video of him beating his then-teenage daughter, has been suspended by the Texas Supreme Court.

Adams, while not admitting guilt or wrongdoing, agreed to the suspension. He will be paid during the suspension.

The judge's lawyer, William Dudley, said his client proposed the suspension motion with input from the state Commission on Judicial Conduct, which is investigating the incident. Adams already was on voluntary leave, Dudley said in a statement to CNN.

The Texas Supreme Court issued an order of suspension late Tuesday, Nov. 22, as recommended by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct, for the immediate suspension, with pay, of Aransas County court-at-law Judge William Adams, pending the final disposition of the sworn complaint filed against him.

Suspended with pay????? Why? This is not punishment, he is getting a paid vacation for beating his handicapped daughter!

I sure hope this isn't the end of this sad saga...This is only giving him a much needed rest and time to play golf...

Judge Adams has been suspended until the State of Texas - State Commission on Judicial Conduct can conclude their investigation of Judge Adams.

It has been reported this could take up to several months. SCJC - TX has the authority to remove Judge Adams from the bench if their investigation warrants it.

If not, Judge Adams can resign or be voted out of office in 2014. He has 3 years left in his current elected judgeship. The registered voters of Aransas County, Tx can vote him out in 2014.

I think Judge Adams is done . . . just my opinion!

That's a relief, Ann...I sure hope they find out what a despicable father he was and not the pillar of society that he thought he was...No one should be immune from punishment when it comes to child abuse...

A prominent Texas judge placed on leave while the court investigates the circumstances surrounding a video of him beating his daughter with a belt and cursing at her proposed the suspension himself, his lawyer said.

Judge William Adams and the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct filed a joint motion to temporarily suspend his official duties as presiding judge during the course of an investigation. The Texas Supreme Court approved the motion on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011.

Adams had already taken immediate voluntary leave, upon learning that the video of "a family disciplinary event" had been made public, his lawyer William Dudley of Corpus Christi, Texas, said in a statement today.

"The agreed temporary suspension is neither a fault sanction imposed by the Texas Supreme Court following an adversarial hearing, a finding of fault or wrongdoing by the commission, or admission of fault or wrongdoing by Judge Adams," Dudley said.
