Casey Anthony prosecutor Jeff Ashton to make 'important' announcement Tuesday

Jeff Ashton, the now former-prosecutor who gained national notoriety during Casey Anthony's first-degree murder case, will make an "important" announcement Tuesday — amid strong rumors he's going to run for state attorney.

No details were released Friday about the announcement, which will be made at 11 a.m. on the steps of the Orange County Courthouse.

But many in the legal defense community have indicated in recent days that Ashton was seriously considering the challenge against his former boss, State Attorney Lawson Lamar.

I saw him on a tv show this week (don't remember which one) and he was asked about that very thing but he said he was not there to discuss his future, only his book.

Prosecutor in Casey Anthony trial runs for office

ORLANDO — A retired prosecutor from the Casey Anthony murder trial has announced that he is running for the state attorney’s office in Central Florida.

In a video and interview posted Sunday by the Orlando Sentinel, Jeff Ashton said he would challenge his former boss, Lawson Lamar, to be the Orange-Osceola state attorney.
