The Duct Tape

I just discovered that a new document was filed with Orange County today by the State.

It has to do with certification of documents from Henkel. It appears the duct tape in question was manufactured in Ohio and was only sold after 2004 for about a year or so in a couple of select stores - Lowe's being one of them. The Certification was filed 9-3-09.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Duct tape found both on Caylee Anthony’s body and a gas can found in the Anthony family home is a rare, industrial fire-resistant tape, according to a court filing Thursday by the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office.

And prosecutors said they intend to use the evidence at trial, where they will claim Casey Anthony murdered her daughter and dumped the body -- the rare duct tape still attached to her skull nearly six months later.

Investigators believe both the gas can and the body were at one time in the trunk of Casey Anthony’s car.

The industrial fire-resistant tape, marketed as “Fire Guard DUCK,” was manufactured by Henkel Consumer Adhesives, of Avon, Ohio.

This finding pretty much erases any doubts about the duct tape link. This will be one of the many things that helps nail KC. The article states that this duct tape is so rare that there would be about 250,000 to 1 odds of two randomly discovered pieces of duct tape being this same, rare type.

Oh, my my....... This is the best news for the State in a long time..... and the WORST news for the defense!!

Now I'm really banking on this industrial strength duct tape holding one of more of KC's fingerprints!!!

There is also speculation that this tape may have come from the car dealership where George worked at one time. Is George a thief as well? Given the rarity of this duct tape, there is no way it's just a coincidence of the tape found on Caylee being the same as on the gas can. I'd say no doubt about it, KC's prints are there.

Piper, I agree about the fingerprints..... the duct tape found on both the gas cans from the A's house and on Caylee's skull was industrial strength. Until I hear at trial, or see documentation, that says KC's prints (specifically KC) were NOT on the tape, I will continue to believe there is no way KC could have touched that tape, placing several pieces over the mouth and nose, and NOT left fingerprints. The mere fact that the pieces were overlapped would protect the prints, IMO.

Fantastic find, Snaz! You would make an excellent Prosecutor, in my opinion. This is just one more blow for the Defense. I'd sure love to hear what Jose Baez thinks about this finding. I'm sure it must be something like this I'd also love to hear what George & Cindy have to say about this latest piece of evidence.

I think it's amazing how LE can find out exactly where & when the tape is made & sold. This is exceptional. I don't think there is any way that the Anthony's can get out outof this one, though I do believe that CA will come up with some lie and/or excuse. The closer it gets to the trial, the more excited I get to watch them all sqirm!

From what I've read about pathological liars, they will never admit that they have lied. Not ever! Even when they are caught red handed, and their lies are proven to be just that, lies. Their main goal is to always deny in any given situation. Isn't that just what Casey does, and has always done from the beginning? How about George & Cindy? Same deal here. It runs in the family.

WFTV Discovers Possible Duct Tape Link In Casey Case

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- It's the duct tape that could strengthen the link between Casey Anthony and her daughter's body and it was discovered only by Eyewitness News.

Eyewitness News found the same rare type of tape that was found on Caylee's skull being used by the Anthony family on a Caylee Anthony poster.

You can't buy the tape from Home Depot. It is industrial-grade duct tape that hasn't been sold in years.

With the debate over the duct tape evidence intensifying this week, Eyewitness News re-analyzed video that was taken in the months before Caylee's body was found.

The discovery could make it even more difficult for the defense to argue that Casey didn't put the tape over Caylee's mouth. The defense has really been trying to shoot down the duct tape evidence recently.

"If the defense tries to advance that, that it was one of the volunteers that took that tape, killed the child, put the tape over the child's face to frame Casey, that strains credibility and it will turn the jury off," WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said.

However, the video taken by Eyewitness News on July 20, 2008 just days after Casey's arrest and one month after Caylee Anthony disappeared, shows that the duct tape on the Anthonys' Caylee posters has the same unique markings as the duct tape on the Anthonys' gas can and the tape found over Caylee's mouth.

A photo of the duct tape on the Anthonys' gas can, which is the one Casey is accused of stealing from her parents in June of 2008, shows distinct markings that it's made by the Henkel Company and shows some of the specifications.

In July of 2008, the Anthonys had set up a command post and put up posters with Caylee's photo on them. They used what appeared to be the same duct tape with Henkel logo.

Both pieces, which apparently came from the Anthonys' home, appear to be the same kind of rare duct tape according to page number 3378 in the state's case file, (read document) that investigators found over Caylee's mouth when her remains were found in the woods near the Anthonys' home.

Page number 3378, shows that the FBI says the duct tape found over Caylee's skull showed the same black oval Henkel logo and the "spec max temp 200 degrees Fahrenheit"

The FBI says it's an industrial tape that hasn't been made for years.

Eyewitness News received a response from the defense team's public relations representative Marti McKenzie.

"The defense team won't respond to anything that hasn’t been entered as evidence in the case," McKenzie said.

Court documents show the defense has had the FBI photos of the duct tape that was over Caylee's mouth, showing the Henkel logo which matches the Anthonys' duct tape, since March.

Could this be more pieces of the duct tape in question????? What do you think? I've been reading lots of discussion about this.

Here's another poster that appears to have been put up with duct tape. IIRC, this is the front door of JB's office, but I am not positive. Maybe one of you knows for sure....

It is hard to get a clear view, but it does look like duct tape holding up the posters in both pictures based on the color of the tape. Wouldn't it be creepy if that was the same duct tape used on Caylee?

Here is a picture from further away. Note the two brackets laying on the floor next to the can. The discovery documents stated LE obtained two brackets from the Anthony home that had pieces of duct tape on them. If you look carefully, it does appear there is duct tape on one end of each bracket. Don't think we have heard anything about the results of any testing yet... assuming any was done (i.e. depending on whether or not it included the 'Henkel' branch logo on it...)

For your help on determining more about the duct tape, here are some other pics of that particular branch of Henkel tape.

This is kind of small, but here is a picture of the duct tape in three different scenarios.... the first one is the tape from the Caylee poster..... as you can see, it DOES, indeed, have the 'Henkel' logo on it..... This could explain what happened to the roll of tape they didn't find at the A's house. It's possible GA used it up taping up fliers. No reason to hang onto an empty roll......

This is a video that shows GA putting up the Caylee poster on the front door of their house.... it is at about :12 into the video.... IMO, you can clearly see it is duct tape he is using.....
