I think this game will be blacked out here in my area as the game wasn't sold out....I cant believe that the Bucs first game of the season wasn't sold out...Oh well, I guess with the economy what it is it can be understood...Will have to check out one of those illegal sites that televises the blacked out games if I'm gonna watch...

I can't believe it wasn't a sellout. The economy in Michigan is terrible, but the Lions have already sold out their Monday night game, Thanksgiving is close to a sellout, and many others are selling pretty good. I'm fully expecting next week's home opener against the Chiefs to be a sellout.

Congrats J4a on your Lions winning 27-20 over the Bucs...I had read that the Lions were expected to lose, so I guess it was a surprise...Serves the Bucks right for getting rid of Jock Sanders...From what I heard they dropped 9 other players to keep their roster at 50...

Thanks Estee. It's the first season opener they have won in awhile. We are expecting the Lions to have a much better season than usual. Many experts feel 10 wins is a good possibility.

Well, the Panthers lost their first game, AGAIN. Our news man said the southern teams lost their games today, first time since week 16 in 2007.

J4A,
I am so glad your team is actually winning and looks good this year. It's always fun talking football with you! I am just so proud of my Ravens for finally putting Big Ben and the Steelers in his place. It was the best game I can remember watching in awhile. Heres to a great season for the Lions and the Ravens. Any early predictions who might go to the Superbowl? I think Green Bay might show up there again! I think it is safe to say the Colts wont.

Well I may have spoken too soon about my Ravens. It was hard to watch today as they got handed the loss by the Tenn Titans. But I was glad to see the Lions win. This just might be your year J4A.

KC reminded me of the way the Lions used to play. The playoffs are a definite possibility for the Lions this year.

New England vs Green Bay is a possibility for the Super Bowl, but I may change that as the season unfolds. Lately, New England has been finding a way not to make it no matter how good their regular season record is. I'm also anxious to see how the Lions do against the Packers. They played them tough at Green Bay and beat them in Detroit last year.

J4a, Green Bay defeated the Panthers 30 to 23 today, but Cam Newton had a great day. He threw for 432 yards, setting an NFL rookie record today. He also threw for over 400 yards last week.

I'm not up on all the current players, but my Dad raised a Lions fan, so I still root for them.

Cam looks like the real deal. I was rooting for Carolina to beat Green Bay, especially since Green Bay is in the Lions division and it would have given the Lions sole possession of first place. The NFL hasn't updated their standings for the 4pm and Sunday night games, but when they do, the Lions will be #2 behind Houston in fewest points allowed so far this year.

Lions put era of failure behind them

Updated Sep 25, 2011 12:09 PM ET

snipped:

The Lions have a legitimate shot at being a quality team once again and three men deserve the credit: Mayhew for reshaping the roster; president Tom Lewand for financially correcting a lot of Millen’s bad deals; and coach Jim Schwartz, who has kept his team on an even course despite losing quarterback Matthew Stafford in consecutive seasons.

Ultimately, it’s the players who win championships, but Mayhew, while working closely with Lewand and Schwartz, has virtually rebuilt the Lions’ roster. Other than Johnson and some veteran offensive linemen and kicker Jason Hanson, Detroit doesn’t have many players left from the 2008 team that finished 0-16.

That was quite a game after the Lions fell behind 20-0 at half time. They are looking pretty good this year, but I still think their running game and offensive line need an upgrade. Left tackle Jeff Backus got two false start penalties in a row and then allowed a sack that put them close to their own end zone. They are lucky Minnesota didn't get a safety. I do think the playoffs are a definite possibility for the Lions.

J4A, that was a great game! Last week's was too!

Barry Sanders replacing Hank Williams on Monday Night Football

Found 6 hours ago on NESN.com:

PLAYERS: Barry Sanders

Via NESN:

Whether it was the decision of ESPN or Hank Williams Jr., the song that has been the staple of ESPN'sMonday Night Football intro for 20 years is no more. With that, NFL fans across the country immediately began to speculate as to what would be the next song to lead into everyone's favorite Monday night programming.

It turns out there may not be a song at all, at least for the time being.

Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders announced via Twitter that he will do the intro for this week's matchup between the Lions and the Bears.

"Ok, I admit it," Sanders said. "I will be at MNF this week and doing the intro."

NFL Picks And Predictions Week 5: Bears Vs. Lions

By Scott Schroeder

snipped:

Considering the Lions are undefeated and boast one of the best quarterback and wide receiver duos in the NFL with Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson, it wouldn't be surprising if all of the NFL picks and predictions go in favor of Detroit in this game. Think back to Matt Forte's 200-plus yard rushing day last week, though, and we might have a game on our hands -- especially after seeing what Andrew Sharp pointed out in his weekly NFL picks.
